If you have visited a spot that another waymarker has previously
visited, you will now want to log that you have visited the spot and tell them about your visit.
Following is an explanation of the different parts of the form
Enter Visit Information - To log a visit, first open the waymark's specific Webpage.
Once on the Webpage, look on the right side bar for the "Waymark Options" section and click on the
"Visit Waymark (Post Log)" option. This will open the logging form. Following are descriptions
of the information you'll be asked to provide when filling out the "Visit" form.
Log Type - First you will need to choose the type of log from the dropdown list.
There are two types of logs. If you are visiting the site for the first time then you will
choose "visited." The other option, "write note" allows you to write a note that will be sent
to the original waymark poster (sometimes called the waymark owner) and also included on the
waymark's log. This note option can be used to tell about a second visit to the site, or to
give additional information about changes at a site. For example, a restaurant might close down
and the person who waymarked the place doesn't realize that it has closed. Someone could post a
note to the waymark owner so they will know to archive the listing so others don't attempt to visit
a spot that is no longer open.
Date - Choose the date that you actually visited the site, not the date that you are
logging your visit.
Recommend Additional Coordinates - If you get to the site and the coordinates seem off,
you can let the waymark owner know about this by clicking the box "Recommend Additional Coordinates."
If you click to check this box, the page will reload and add a spot for you to fill in the new
coordinates that you are suggesting.
Comments - In this spot you will want to tell people about your visit to the waymark and give
your opinion of it. Tell of any adventures you might have had, give additional coordinates of spots
people might want to visit while at the waymark, and make sure to include any information that the
category requires for logging a visit to a waymark. The requirements may only require you to upload
a picture, but it is good waymarking etiquette to tell folks a bit about your visit, whether you're
required to or not. In some categories, logs without any comments will be deleted and you will lose
the credit for the visit.
Rate the Waymark - The final bit of information asked for on the logging form is a dropdown
box that will let you rate the waymark. Not all categories allow ratings, but if the category you
are logging a visit to does and you would like to rate the spot, simply click on the box and choose
the number you think pertains to the quality of the site, with 1 being the lowest rating and 5 being
the highest.
Encrypt Comments, - It is rare that you will need to check this box. If you do, it will put
the comments into code so that people can only read them if they choose to decrypt the code. Some
categories require that you answer a question about the waymarked spot to prove you were at the site.
If this is the case, you would want to encrypt the log so others won't see the answer.
Now that you've finished filling out the log form, click the "submit log" button. Your log will be
submitted and a page will open that says "You have successfully recorded your visit to the 'Giza Pyramid'
waymark" or whatever waymark you just visited. STOP! You are not finished yet.
Upload Photo - Almost all categories require you to upload a photo to prove that you were at
the site. Some want a picture of the waymark with you or your GPS in the shot; others are less specific
about the photograph. Just be sure to know what the photo requirements are before you log your visit.
To upload the photo click on the link entitled "upload photo for this visit". This link is located below
the sentence that tells you that you have successfully logged your visit to the waymark. Click the link to
open the photo upload page. Here's what will be asked of you when you upload a photo.
Choose Photo - Click on browse and choose the photo file (jpg, gif, or tiff format only) to upload.
File caption - In the text box, type the name you want folks to see when they double-click this
picture to open it. The caption appears above the large view of the photo. You want to make sure that you
give your photo at least a simple caption otherwise the website will use the file name that your computer uses.
File description - This information appears under the caption and gives you a little more
space to describe the photo. It's a good place to add the photo's coordinates, if you have them.
Go ahead and click on the "upload image" button now that you have all of the information filled out.
Sit back and relax while the site uploads your photo. It can take awhile if the file size of the photo
is large. All photos will be resized by the site during the uploading process.
When the site has finished uploading your photo, the picture will open on the page. Below the photo in
small text it will say "click here to upload another image." If you have more photos to upload, click on the
link to upload another image. This will open up the form that you just filled in for the first photo.
If you're done uploading photos, you're finished logging. Feel free to navigate away from the log to
wherever your heart desires.
