Now that your waymark has been submitted to waymarking.com, let's talk about what will happen to it.
It won't automatically show up in the category you listed it in, but will instead be sent to a team of
waymarkers, called officers, who will review it. They will be checking to make sure that the waymark
fits the category description and that you have included all of the required information.
If everything looks good, an officer will approve the waymark and Groundspeak will send you an e-mail
letting you know that it has been approved and added to the category's list of waymarks. However, if
there is a problem, your waymark will be denied. This isn't the end of the road, though. If the officer
determined that the site you waymarked doesn't fit the category description, you're out of luck, but if
you're just missing a piece of information, you can resubmit the waymark after you do the edits that the
officer has requested.
When denying a waymark, the officer is required to give you an explanation as to why it has been denied.
If this explanation isn't clear, it's a good idea to contact the category leader and politely let them
know that the denial note was unclear and that you would like to know what steps to take before you resubmit
your waymark. To contact the category leader, first open the category's description page. Under the category
title you will see a link that says "Managed by: xxxxxx." Click this link to access the page for the group
of officers that do the reviewing for the category. On the group's page there will be a list of officers
and the first officer listed will be the group's leader. Click the "send message" link near their username.
You're probably wondering how it is these people have become officers or leaders and why they have the
ability to review your waymarks. Waymarking.com is a self-regulated Website. This means that active members
make decisions about which new categories are created, and which waymarks are accepted, rather than the
game's creators at Groundspeak making those choices alone. To be involved in this advanced level of
participation on the Website, you must upgrade to a premium Groundspeak Membership, which costs $30 a year.
If you are having a lot of fun with the game, then it is well worth the money. To purchase a membership go
to groundspeak.com's shopping page.
There you'll see a box that says "Premium Memberships" that will give you information and a link to the member
subscription page.
