Flickr Waymarking Group Photo Contests

The group of waymarkers over at Flickr.com take part in a friendly photo contest each month. Here's how it works. A photography theme is announced on the first of each month and group members submit photographs of waymarks that depict the contest theme. At the end of the month anyone can come to this Webpage and vote on the photo they think is the best photo fitting the theme. If you're interested in learning more about the contest, or in joining our group be sure to link over to the Waymarking page on Flickr and learn more. There is also a group on Waymarking.com that you can join to receive emails about new contests or voting deadlines.

Current Photo Contest

November's theme: "Animals"

As I sit here surrounded by dogs, it gave me an idea for this month's contest theme. This month I want you to submit photos featuring animals that were taken at a waymarked location. Some ideas might be waymarks in the "Zoos" or "Off Leash Parks" categories, or maybe a wildlife photo taken at a waymarked National Park or National Wildlife Refuge. Be creative and lets see what you've got.

As usual, the themed photos (two photos are allowed to be submitted per waymarker) you choose to enter in the contest must have a waymark as their primary subject matter. Photos entered in the contest must be posted prior to midnight on the 28th of the month. Make sure that you've added the photos to the Waymarking group's photo pool and tag the photo that you are entering with wmk1108 so we will know that it is part of the contest. Check out the current photos that have been submitted for this contest. (Psst... this link is a tag search, so if no photos have been tagged with the contest code yet, you won't see anything.)

Septembers's Winning Photo

Theme: "school"
Ambrosia took this gorgeous photo of Highland School in the little Eastern Washington town of Baird. It is waymarked in the "Former Schools" category. All photos entered in the contest can be seen here. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Voting

October's Theme: "Light"

Voting is now open for the October's "Light" themed photo contest. Photographers were asked to submit waymark photos which use light creatively in their composition.

Voting will run from the 1st to the 30th of the month. Look for two things when you are voting - the overall quality of the photograph, and how well the photo portrays this month's theme. I highly recommend that you click on the photo to link to a description and to see a higher quality, larger sized image on the photo's Flickr page. The tiny, lower quality images on this page don't do the actual photos justice.
